I can't seem to get the problem to repeat...though I did quite alot of
work on it last night.

Ended up reinstalling the nvidia-glx-legacy driver and spent a few hours
googling for modelines for my monitor.  Now that its all working, I
can't get the damn thing to crash again.  If I do get it to crash, I
follow the valgrind instructions.

On a side note, I did notice that I couldn't recompile the nvidia binary
drivers at first because include/linux/config.h seems to be missing from
my the 2.6.20 source package.

Thanks for your help...I've been a linux user since 95 but nothing has
even come close to Ubuntu...
