What you see is just login screen image used as background in Metacity. In older Metacity releases you would see just gray screen... You can enable background in gnome-flashback module: gsettings set org.gnome.gnome-flashback desktop-background true But still it might not work good enough. :( -If nemo is run to take over the desktop, the destkop icons appear in > front of all windows. > Does it include also panels?
