*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 85776 *** What would be useful is a valgrind log (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind) of gnome-panel when it's crashing. The problem is that the bug is not easy to trigger so you would have to run gnome-panel under valgrind for some time and that slows down things a lot, if you want to try you are welcome
