Try to rename the Gimp directory: 1. stop all the Gimp processes 2. sudo mv "$USER/.gimp-2.8" "$USER/.gimp-2.8-backup" 3. sudo mv ~root/.gimp-2.8 ~root/.gimp-2.8-backup
