Please give me the output of : apt-cache madison gnome-netstatus-applet remove and readd the applet and confirm that it works or not. If it don't work, install http://flomertens.keo.in/debian/gnome-netstatus-applet_false_i386.deb remove and readd the applet and confirm that it works or not.
