On 14.04 What I did Launched Rhythmbox from the Launcher. Played a couple of wav files. Closed Rhythmbox with the window's close widget. Looked in the Sound menu to see whether it had made itself persistent. It had. Right-clicked it there. After a long time it opened. (may have played another file here) The machine became very busy, mouse pointer disappeared. Disk light continually on. Opened another tty. During the (very slow) login, a message appeared saying hda1 would be checked on next startup. I ran top. rhythmbox-metadata was taking 29% cpu and 60% memory. Returned to desktop with Ctl-Alt-F7 In the background was the error message. Sorry, the program 'rhythmbox' closed unexpectedly. Your computer does not have enough free memory to automatically analyze the problem and send a report to the developers." Apport was taking 100% cpu but no notification from it appeared.
