When the evolution main window is visible, the behavior is as you
described. First of all, let me clarify that I would dislike a dialog
window, too. However, outbox can be not visible if the list of folder is
long - and, believe me, mine is :) If I quit, ok I am warned. However if
my network connection does not work well, or I suspend my laptop before
sending the e-mail, it will not be sent. A progressbar in the statusbar
of the main window would be not so bad, or some other "sensitive"
feedback, e.g. the cancel button becoming red, something I can learn to
observe and that is always in sight.

Anyways, I reported the bug mainly for nautilus-sendto, so feel free to
reject this bug if you think things are nice as they are now, I'll open
another one for the other issue.
