Public bug reported:

None of my sound devices are detected by HAL in Feisty, and as such they
don't show up in Sound Preferences. I have to manually select ALSASink
as an output pipeline in GConf in order to get any sound, and even then
it doesn't have DMix, so I have no software mixing. Bummer.

Both the modules for my M-Audio Audiophile 2496 (snd_ice1712) and SB
Live! 5.1 Digital (snd_emu10k1) are successfully loaded, both cards and
all their devices are listed by "aplay -l", and the devices show up in
/dev/snd. It seems to be that HAL just isn't picking them up.

** Affects: hal (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
