I just tried the patch attached to this bug. I can confirm that it removes the white background on the second screen. However, it does not fix the cursor. The cursor is still x, but I guess that is a separate bug not related to nautilus.
But I think it is very bad that a patch which has been available more than a year still has not made it into any official package yet!
