This bug is still affecting Ubuntu Precise (only version I've tested). Also, I think it should (and maybe would) remove the user from nopasswdlogin group, because otherwise user can still login without password (the behaviour Sergio Barjola noticed). passwd command doesn't (obviously) do that.
