Thanks for the reply. I`m using the default Ubuntu (Feisty) ATI driver (card is a Radeon X600, Acer TravelMate 4100 laptop). The problem was occurring in bog-standard GNOME after start up.
Interestingly, since applying a bunch of patches last night and a cold start today (I keep up to date with Feisty updates, knowing it is a development build), instead of the immediate crashes, the GNOME splash now lists "loading the panel" 7 or 8 times on login, but does not crash; I just receive "I`ve detected a panel already running". I guess it`s possible the issue is being addressed by some other code changes. Will keep an eye on things as I`ve had the crashing panel issue since Edgy`s release. -- [apport] gnome-volume-manager crashed with SIGSEGV https://launchpad.net/bugs/82748 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
