To all --- I think that it is clear that all the world is affected, although it happens randomly so you will see it only with big files or a lot of them, and intermittently. It seems to me that the problem was a regression introduced by the upgrade from 1.12 to 1.14 of gvfs. I pointed the upstream bug to this launchpad bug; I think that the best option now would be to try to help the developers of upstream gvfs to squash this bug.
