I'm sure there is support for the idea, as there is a 4 years old upstream bug already for this, see https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=525288. I am sure this would be a valuable contribution to Ubuntu and GNOME, so please work on it, and propose a patch, I will happily review and promote it for inclusion in System Monitor upstream.
