I get exactly the same problem on Edgy fresh install trying to add a Lexmark Postscript printer on a remote LPD.
I added the printer as local, and that worked fine. I went back to the printer properties and changed the connection to network LPD and entered the IP address and queue name. Saved the configuration but printing still did not work. When I checked the printer properties again the queue name was missing. I re-added it several times but it was never saved properly.
