Public bug reported:

Some Dell laptops have a sensor for auto adjusting screen brightness. In my
Dell D630 ATG this is operated by the Fn+left arrow combination.
In oneiric, trying to change this shows the trackpad off osd overlay instead,
without really changing the auto brightness nor switching off the trackpad.

To reproduce:
reboot & login;
press Fn + up arrow key to set brightness to maximum;
press Fn + left arrow key combination to set brightness to auto, it always
lowers brightness to half;
notice that brightness level doesn't change, but the track pad off OSD overlay
is shown instead.
the trackpad stays obviously on. This laptop doesn't have a trackpad on/off
switch.

I wonder if it is somehow related to bug #892776
