You have been subscribed to a public bug: $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 9.04 Release: 9.04 System is up to date.
To reproduce: 1. Open a couple of Nautilus windows with source and target folders. 2. Start copying big amount of data, so that it takes a while (I used something like 7GB), from source to target folder. 3. Try to perform you standard routines/tasks. While copying is in process It is really hard to interact with the desktop. Response of the programs/controls becomes really sluggish. Even while typing text in the text-fields I observe pauses up to few seconds before typed in keystrokes appear as text on the screen. On the other hand, if copying is done in the Midnight Commander, then the problem is less severe. The delays are even more harsh if I perform copying from/to external USB hard drive. I experience a slide show on the desktop then. Similar behavior was also reported a number of times on our community support forum. I tried to monitor processor/memory consumption — nothing unusual. There is plenty of memory and processor time available to the system.
