Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit
To reproduce: Open GEdit. Write some text in cyrilic. Save the file *with the Windows-1251* encoding. Close the file. Open the file through the "Open" dialog or through recently opened files within GEdit. File opens fine. Now close GEdit, and open the file by double clicking on it. File opens with gibberish (most likely thinking that it's a UTF8 file). What i expect to happen. There should be a setting allowing me to say that i want the encoding guessed for the file when it's opened via double-click (or through the terminal). Note: Guessing the encoding should *not* become the default feature. UTF-8 should remain default. UTF-8 should never be broken once it works correctly, the problem is with the old style encodings. ** Affects: gedit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gedit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/795388 Title: GEdit doesn't guess the encoding if file is opened with doubleclick To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit/+bug/795388/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
