I had a similar problem, and I had the system proxy set to use the proxy for all protocols. This seemed to cause evolution to try and use my web proxy for an imap connection. I unchecked the box in the Network Proxy system settings so that it wouldn't apply to all protocols, and set the proxy individually for http/https/ftp. This is obviously a workaround, though, and the bug persists in Evolution.
