Not that this is likely the appropriate way to fix this, but I had this issue with everything I used gedit on, so I went and just made the file and the error messages went away. It appears to be filling the file with stuff, but I'm not a Linux guru so there might be a reason my hand should be smacked with a ruler for getting rid of the error in this manner. :)
