Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm
After updating to xserver-xorg-* 1.10.0-0ubuntu1 earlier today, gdm failed to load /usr/bin/X because it wasn't present any more. Doing $ sudo ln -s /usr/bin/Xorg /usr/bin/X fixed the problem. Here's the relevant information from /var/sys/syslog: Mar 18 16:05:24 MacBookPro gdm-simple-slave[2151]: WARNING: Could not start command '/usr/bin/X -br -verbose': Failed to execute child process "/usr/bin/X" (No such file or directory) Mar 18 16:05:24 MacBookPro gdm-simple-slave[2151]: WARNING: Could not start the X server (your graphical environment) due to an internal error. Please contact your system administrator or check your syslog to diagnose. In the meantime this display will be disabled. Please restart GDM when the problem is corrected.
