Ooops, apologies for the duplicate post above. I've found a way to recreate this bug relatively consistantly.
Create a new user and log into Gnome with it. In Nautilus, open the ~/Examples folder and copy all the contents to the CD/DVD creator. Click "write CD", then select "file image". Save the file to the desktop. (I suspect that probably any ISO file will do, but this at least allows you to create one that's nice and small to work with.) Right-click the created file and select "Extract here". (Note that it creates a new directory, but doesn't actually extract anything). It might not crash straight away, but just delete the directory and try and extract it again (it took up to a dozen times or so for me). gnome-panel will eventually crash, and keep crashing. I should add that I'm using AMD64 with a new install of Edgy RC + all updates. I haven't tried yet to see if this also happens on i386. And I still don't have a cure :( -- gnome-panel crash https://launchpad.net/bugs/63465 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
