*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 62300 *** Removing ~/.gtkrc-1.2-gnome2 (as mentioned for bug 62300) solved it for me, without a need for a ~/.gtkrc.mine. The issue in xfontsel is also gone, I don't know if it was related.
