Sorry but I think marking it as "invalid" is completely wrong... I use Ubuntu in my laptop since 8.04 and I never had this problem. Suddenly, after upgrading Ubuntu version, it appears and you say it's a hardware problem? You could say it's a kernel stuff but never a hardware stuff...
