Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center
System / Preferences / Monitors I disabled 'Same image in all monitors and clicked 'Detect Monitors.' After detecting both monitors, the one connected to '1' on the cable (green in the application) was shown on the right-hand side, though physically on the left. Likewise, the one connected to '2' (pink in the application) was shown on the left, though it is on the right. I dragged the one connected to green one to the left of the pink and pressed 'Apply.' This brought a verification dialog up in the green window, and I agreed to keep the new configuration. When I restarted the machine, I expected the "main window" (the one with the menu bar and whatever the thing at the bottom of the screen is called) would be on the left. It was not; it was still at the right. I don't know if it is pertinent, but there are numerous errors in the ${HOME}/.xsession-errors file, which I have pasted below. An additional point, which might help: If I press the 'Make Default' button, the next time I boot, I cannot login. My user name is highlighted, but pressing the enter key gives no response. The mouse is clearly still working: I can wiggle it about on the desktop. ========================= .xsession-errors =========================== /etc/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup...
