I am attempting to play Audio CDs with rhythmbox. When I insert a disc
into the drive, it appears in Rhythmbox. Initially, the tracks are
listed with the correct times, but no names or album information. I am
able to play the CD at this point. No more than 5 seconds later, a
MusicBrainz message appears stating that it "could not find this album
on MusicBrainz." At this point, the Album name appears, but all of the
tracks completely disappear from the CD Track Playlist, playback cuts
out, and the CD is no longer playable. This issue occurs for more than
one CD.

Rhythmbox is able to play back other audio files of various types (I
have tried wav, mp3, m4a, flac, and ogg).

The folder "~/.gvfs/cdda mount on sr0" exists and is accessible,
containing the correct number of tracks, and displaying the correct
times when accessing the right-click -> properties menu item for each
track. The CD appears as an "Audio Disc" in "computer:///".

When attempting to copy all tracks off the disc with nautilus, the file
transfer freezes at a variable period of time into the operation
(assuming a read error of some description).

I have attempted to open the CD using VLC media player with success. VLC
displays the correct CD Text for all tracks and can play all tracks on
the CD. My system is also dual-boot with windows 7. I am able to open,
play back, and rip the contents of the Audio CDs with Windows Media
Player with no issues. On a side note, it did not appear as though media
player attempted to read the CD text as none of the CD information
(album name, song titles) appeared.

I have tried:
* apt-get purge and reinstall rhythmbox
* apt-get purge and reinstall gvfs-backends

I have just installed Ubuntu 10.10 a few days ago. I was previously
using 9.04 with no issues.

Some Information:
==============
Ubuntu 10.10 AMD64
uname -a: Linux kuroi 2.6.35-24-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 2 02:41:37 UTC
2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Nautilus 2.32.0
Rhythmbox 0.13.1
VLC 1.1.4
GStreamer 0.10.30

The cdrom section of lshw is:
           *-cdrom
                description: DVD-RAM writer
                product: DVDRAM GH22NS50
                vendor: HL-DT-ST
                physical id: 0.0.0
                bus info: s...@4:0.0.0
                logical name: /dev/cdrom
                logical name: /dev/cdrw
                logical name: /dev/dvd
                logical name: /dev/dvdrw
                logical name: /dev/scd0
                logical name: /dev/sr0
                version: TN00
                capabilities: removable audio cd-r cd-rw dvd dvd-r dvd-ram
                configuration: ansiversion=5 status=ready
              *-medium
                   physical id: 0
                   logical name: /dev/cdrom

One other thing that may be worth mentioning is the fact that the DVD
drive has some firmware adware (although I'm sure LG wouldn't call it
that). When the drive is closed and empty, it registers as containing a
disc labelled "Bluebirds," which appears to be some drag+drop burning
software or something of a similar description. When the drive is open
or the drive contains a disc and is closed, it is as it would normally
be.

Due to the fact that I am having partial success in nautilus, limited
success in rhythmbox, and total success in vlc, I am unsure as to where
the problem lies for this issue. If I can provide any further useful
information please let me know.

Thanks in advance,
-Daniel
