Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

Choosing "Analog Output" in Sound Preferences will turn down the volume
for this soundcard completely. The volume can't be changed in gnome
volume control. You have to open "alsamixer" in a terminal and press f6
and choose your usb soundcard and turn up the volume manually there.
