For conclusion, we're just reporting bugs, and yes it's a bug, it's confirmed and it's affect the main feature of empathy. Maybe the bug was fixed upstream, or in a later version that didn't appear in official repo, yes, who cares ?, we're reporting so that developer know the current version in maverick has a bug, and they have to fix it. Not all users have ability to enable extra repo, so a official fix is required
