Is the disk broken ? That was my question. There's a Win7 install working just fine at the beginning of the disk, and a fresh install of 10.04 at the end of it, which has functionned correctly twice, and now crashes at boot time for unknown reasons. The Palimpest crach occurs at various times when checking the various ext4 filesystems of this Ubuntu part of the disk from a live USB session.
