Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

Screen is not being unlocked after password input. Instead, the dialog
reports "checking" forever, without any possibility of user input. Only
way to unlock the screen is by killing gnome-screensaver.

The issue is alos reported here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9976544.

It might be a general authentication prblem and not be restricted to
gnome-screensaver.
