I am one of the upstream maintainers of gThumb. The latest version of gThumb in Ubuntu is 2.11.3. 2.11.3 is old and buggy, and was from an unstable development series. Please upgrade to the stable 2.12.0 release ASAP, or you will see many needless bug reports.
