Vino has some dependencies with GNOME components, but seems to run fine
on XUbuntu when installing out of the box. The only issue is the file
/usr/share/applications/vino-preferences.desktop, as described above,
which is provided by Vino right?

At the other hand, if Vino is not meant to be used on XUbuntu systems,
which run per default on XFCE iso GNOME, then why provide it for
XUbuntu?
