It now transpires that there exists a separate package compizconfig-
settings-manager. It was not installed automatically when I upgraded to
Maverick alpha3. When I installed it manually, it received its own menu
entry in System > Preferences > CompizConfig Settings Manager, and the
System > Preferences > Windows entry remained void. So I think it is
just a matter of tidying packages up for the new Ubuntu Maverick release
and other releases that include Compiz.
