You have one example at hand here:
The Chinese translation "加入" means "Subscribe (a user) to a group" or
"to join a group" or "to become a member", while "新增" means "New
group" and is often used in the meaning of "Create a new group". Terms
like "Add" or "Delete" may be perfectly OK in English if you are able to
see the context by looking at the UI (something which is not true for
the visual impaired), but in Chinese translations are usually
descriptive. "To add" would be translated in different ways, depending
on *what* you add to *where* or if you create it (i.e. it didn't exist
before). If the intended meaning is "add an item to the list", then this
exact description should be added in the message context. The only
general translation for Chinese I could think of would be "加上" ("to
add sth into or on top of sth"), although Chinese users will probably
twitch when they see this.
And just because it's a stock button in gtk, doesn't mean that it's a)
"standard" and b) good practice to do this. If you need to give
descriptions for visual impaired people anyway, why not do it for
everyone by creating more descriptive button labels in the first place?
Something like "Add group" and "Delete group" would probably be
descriptive enough already.
