I see the same thing trying to test an external USB 500 GB disk. It has one partition that occupies the whole disk. The partition is not mounted. About one second after starting the self-test the progress bar jumps up one increment, about 10% of the way, and never progresses further. On one occassion I waited about 90 hours (almost 4 days) with no movement of the progress bar and no completion. The access light on the HDD kept flashing every few seconds.
A few other shortcomings related to self-test: a) three testing options are presented when self-test is started but no information is provided to explain what they are. Especially puzzling is the option "Conveyance - usually takes less than 10 minutes". b) The progress bar is not clearly associated with the Self-test button and isn't adequately labeled. The first time I ran Self-test (when it continued over 3 days) I didn't notice the progress bar move at the start and I thought it was reported something other than progress of the test (e.g., the number of times self-test had been run). I suggest grouping the progress bar with the self-test button, and possibly labelling it something like "Self- test progress". ** Changed in: gnome-disk-utility (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed ** Summary changed: - palimpsest extended self-test doesn't complete after 12 hours + palimpsest self-test doesn't complete -- palimpsest self-test doesn't complete https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/557078 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-disk-utility in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
