Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gconf
Periodically after a reboot, my system CPU usage will rise to 100% and the hard disk IO light will continuously flicker. The computer fan will increase to full speed and both the CPU and GPU temperature monitors read in excess of 70 degrees C while the system is otherwise idle. I believe the problem to be connected to gconfd-2 continuously writing some kind of state information, potentially related to compiz and metacity conflicting with one another, based on random googling about the problem. Every time I think I've solved the issue (killing metacity one time, deleting a preference folder and rebooting another time), it returns. This is, for me, a major issue. Systems should be put under so much idle load that they get that hot.
