Sorry to reply so late. I did not receive the update for issue solving for a long time and I meet some problems on my vmware server. I removed the Ubuntu on my vmware virtual machine already and install Ubuntu 10.04 directly instead upgrading from 8.04 to 9.10. In the clean install Ubuntu 10.04, I didn't see the problem anymore. I don't have the old virtual machine which faced this issue. Sorry that I could not test it. I also meet a problem I couldn't start vmware web service on my WinXP system and that's another reason I could not test. No vmware + Ubuntu could work right now.
