Binary package hint: gnome-control-center
After trying to set up compiz working from the Appearance dialog, and
fail, the user does not get any visual warning that it has fallen back
to use metacity.
As side info, the bug that was preventing my computer to use compiz was
due to trying to set compiz with a virtual resolution larger than the
gl_max_texture_size reported (dual displays!)
