It is interesting. The same happens to me in okular (unlike in xpdf) so problem is not with evince but with the popplar library for sure. ( see the enclosed png file) I also enclosed the with packages of fonts installed on my system. And this is the output of pdffonts but I still don't know how to come over this problem.
