Well epiphany no longer is using xulrunner engine it's using webkit
engine now.
"The dimming effect" you are seeing is part of the compiz animations. If
you go to appearance you can select "No effects" in animation tab.
Generally browsers do produce quite a few messages on the console during
normal more of operation.
I would suggest to try to reproduce this bug with compiz animations
turned-off.
