First off, this bug seems somewhat related to the older bug, though the error returned is a different number. https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gnome-cups-manager/+bug/6711 - this is the older bug report.
I am able to reproduce this. I have the latest updates to Edgy as of this posting, and i have gone through a few logs. Upon running sudo gnome-cups-manager in a command line, it lists the printers, and automatically detects and attempts to install my Canon iP4000. However, after clicking the final button, this error shows in the display: Selected ppd file = foomatic:Canon-BJ-100-bj200.ppd Selected ppd file = foomatic:Canon-iP4000-gutenprint.ppd ** (gnome-cups-add:10374): WARNING **: IPP request failed with status 1280 I went ahead and took a look at the CUPS logs, and here's what they show after an attempt to install the printer: access_log: localhost - - [21/Sep/2006:08:48:35 -0400] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 2257 CUPS-Get-Devices - localhost - - [21/Sep/2006:08:48:35 -0400] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 1365650 CUPS-Get-PPDs - localhost - - [21/Sep/2006:08:48:40 -0400] "POST /admin/ HTTP/1.1" 401 319 CUPS-Add-Modify-Printer successful-ok localhost - root [21/Sep/2006:08:48:40 -0400] "POST /admin/ HTTP/1.1" 200 319 CUPS-Add-Modify-Printer server-error-internal-error error_log: E [21/Sep/2006:08:48:40 -0400] CUPS-Add-Modify-Printer: Unauthorized E [21/Sep/2006:08:48:41 -0400] [CGI] foomatic: There is neither a custom PPD file nor the driver database entry contains sufficient data to build a PPD file. I have searched the internets and have not found any useful information on this bug. There is more than one post in the forum on this, aparrantly it worked back in Dapper, and after upgrading to Edgy, it has not worked properly. ** Summary changed: - Cannot add printer + Unable to add printer in Edgy ** Tags added: error printing -- Unable to add printer in Edgy https://launchpad.net/bugs/61034 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
