Yes it does exactly the same. I tried reinstalling the entire system from scratch, with same results. I tried to replace metacity with other (xfwm), and replace gnome with xfce. In the latter case, all is fine until some process try to access gvfs (open a "open" window from firefox for example), then the problem comes back again.
