Yeah, same here, on a Lucid fresh install. Another good workaround is to install CDRDAO and use that as a standalone CD backup program. CDRDAO runs from the command line, and although its man page and documentation are rather byzantine, there is an excellent Ubuntu tutorial here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=795181. Once you get CDRDAO working on its own you might not even want to go back to Brasero :)
