It is very heartening to see this discussion continue. I assumed from some of the responses that a decision in this regard had been reached, and the umpires decision was final. Not so!
To the point, and as an early commenter on this I agree wholeheartedly with Lonnie: 2009-11-12 and that viewpoint: that the links in 'create document' launch a template from the respective application, from which a file may be created and saved anywhere that the user chooses. These templates can be customised to the users preferences or style sheet thus enriching the whole task.
