Sebastien Bacher , this would actually be a wishlist bug. The reporters have probably downloaded the ubuntu-mono package and are using it in Karmic. gnome-media uses the non -panel icon names still , we removed the volume icons which didnt use *-panel name from ubuntu-mono so that the icons dont show up in the apps[RB, totem] or the sound preferences window.
This was the intended behavior, the ubuntu-mono icons are to be used only in the panel and the Humanity icons elsewehere.
