Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

the ubuntu theme shows misleading timestamps for messages in conversations from
previous days.
a conversation in empathy with the ubuntu theme enabled would look like this:

"helle darling, please pick up the kids today" - 15:42
"okay luv, no problem" - 15:29

in this example, the date of the first message can not be determined.
one may falsely conclude, it was sent on the same day

better would be, to determine wheter a message was sent on the same day, or on
a different day.
if the date differs, that information should be included in the message's
timestamp.
if the date of the message is TODAY, then the timestamp can omit that
information safely.

** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
