ok, I've actually played some more with this bug as I was wondering where it comes from (and how hard would it be to fix it in Karmic) and it looks like I've made a mistake - I've originally bound it to Ctrl+L and it worked just fine, I've also bound it to Ctrl+S but probably haven't tested it properly and didn't notice that it doesn't work as expected. Now I see that Ctrl+S and some other combinations (like Ctrl+O) are treated differently and it isn't limited to totem - I could confirm that this is an issue in gedit (you can try by binding Insert date and time to Ctrl+A and using it - instead of displaying a dialog it selects all text). Sorry for making the noise. I'm going to mark bug as confirmed once again. Now about if it gets fixed in Karmic - I'm not sure as it depends on the complexity of the bug and amount of work it would take to backport the fix. Can't tell right now.
