Well It seems this problem is not solved because initially I had problems connecting to Yahoo and Gmail in empathy. It just would not detect that i'd connected the internet using wvdial.
I found a solution to that problem by changing configurations of empathy in gconf-editor. So Yahoo started working but yet gmail would not connect. So i tried changing the default settings of Gmail account. I tried different permutations combinations of the following parameters. Username: myusern...@gmail.com password: ******** Enabled: check Encryption Required: check OR uncheck Ignore SSL certi errors: check OR uncheck Resource: <BLANK> OR Telepathy Priority: 0 Server: <BLANK> OR talk.google.com Port: 5222 OR 5223 OR 443 Use old SSL: check OR uncheck I tried all possible combinations of these and it always gave me network error while yahoo was happily running side-by-side. My empathy version is: Empathy 2.28.1.1 I guess this is a bug or these parameters are not correct. If not, I'm not to blame, because this should work without doing any manual setting.
