Fresh install of Karmic UNR on an Acer Aspire One shows the same error. Gnome-power-manager shows charging icon while /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state show correct battery information.
This is critical. Without gnome-power-manager functioning correctly, the machine just powers off when the battery dies, resulting in lost work.
