Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit
If you type the string "DDS" gedit seems to change the mime-type of the
document from "plain text document" to "Direct Draw surface" (I don't know why
with that particular string). The question is that you cannot see this from
nautilus properties but you have to open the document with gedit and you will
see, on the top of the tab, a different icon from the one used for text
documents. If you let the mouse pointer above it you will see a contextual info
that says that the document has just "Direct Draw surface" mime-type.
The strange thing is that if you open it through places -> recent documents you
obtain another error ("Could not open recently used document
"file:///home/marcop/Documents/info/test.txt" could not find a suitable
application) that says that gnome cannot find a suitable application to open
the text file (but the strange thing is that if you open it with nautilus the
text document will be correctly opened with gedit even if with the changing of
mime-type as described above).

Tested with Hardy and gedit 2.22.3

String "DDS" as first characters on text document makes gedit mark it as
"Direct Draw surface" as mime-type instead of "plain text document"
