Are you trying to play a commercial dvd? Most of them are encrypted. To play encrypted DVDs, you have to install libdvdcss2, which you can get at http://packages.medibuntu.org/pool/free/libd/libdvdcss/libdvdcss2_1.2.10-0.3medibuntu1_i386.deb. If you are trying to play a homemade DVD, then it is probably a bug.
